A new page

I've been playing around with my blog lately and I finally think I have the "pages" part of my blog figured out, but I'm not holding my breath!!! I usually think I have it all figured out only to learn I don't know what I am doing.  I say all this to let you all know I started a new page on my blog....
....the "Project"page where I can post all of my pending projects.
The ones I am currently working on, the ones waiting to be started, and the ones I dream of doing!
You can find the tab in the upper left had side of my blog.

All in a days work!

As I write this post, at 4:00, I'm sitting out on my front porch watching Acelia and Honey work!
It was such a beautiful day outside and I spent a good part of the day working outside.
Rain is on the way for tonight and into tomorrow so I thought I'd get a few things wrapped up outside.  I am really loving our new tractor!!!! I was able to get twice the work done!

I found this little gem hiding under a cauliflower plant that I pulled out of my garden!

Just to give you some perspective....it was bigger than our basketball!!!

I decorated the barn post with the corn stalks from my garden and some small sugar pie pumpkins.

I don't know how many calendula seeds I've collected and there are tons more, so Sunday afternoon I'll finish collecting them and call it good.

Here's the main garden all emptied out.  I really need to rethink this garden this year.  I can't have more than I can keep up with!

Here's my garlic bed.  I put in about 200 or so bulbs.  It took me just an hour or so to make it and get it planted with that tractor!!!

Finally.......It appears I'm in the market for a new lamp post! Don't ask! Let me just say that it didn't involve me or the tractor!

Horseradish

I dug up my horseradish root today!
We love it! The hotter the better!  After I processed the root in the food processor, I opened the lid and my eyes started to water and I almost choked!  The fumes from freshly grated horseradish are violent!

More Cow Bell

Here's Jimmy Stewart.  I snapped 4 pictures of him and every time he had his tongue up his nose!
Real cute Stewart!  He has quite the rebellious streak and I guess he isn't afraid to let it show!

I now understand the full meaning of "cowlick".  You know that thing your hair does.  Mine did it when I was a teenager and I hated it.  I would put the heat from the hairdryer right to it,  to straighten them out, only to have the snow or rain put them right back! Anyhoo.......I noticed the cows have all these "cowlicks" all over their sides!! It's the mark they leave when they lick themselves.
I learn something new everyday!

I'd really like to know why they do this!
It bothers me when I really think about it.......

Is this a sweet and gentle cow or what???
Eleanor of course!
She's my prize winning cow.....
Ok she hasn't won any official prizes yet, but I always sneak her a treat without the "others" knowing, it's her prize!

Finally!!!!!!!!! The last thing to harvest is ready!

Acelia and Honey have an announcement........

They are going for their bronze next year!!

They make a good pair!

The Tractor Arrives!

Life on the farm is about to get a whole lot easier around here!!
We've been talking tractor talk around here for quite sometime and it's finally happened!  We bought our first tractor and our last!
The crap-o-la was starting to take over out behind the barn and it was looking like we may have to make several hundred trips with the wheelbarrow!

Look at that smile on ol' hubby's face!

Checkin' under the hood!

Cows and Cabbage.....in that order!

We moved our cows into the new pasture two days ago and by the looks of these girls they
are happy!  There isn't much left in the field for nutrition, but Scott wanted them to get in the swing of moving from field to field.  We just wind a hay bale out in the middle of the field and let em' at it!

I picked and picked and picked and picked the cabbage!!
What was I thinking last spring?
How much cabbage can one family eat?

It's hanging from the barn rafters surrounded in hay and pine shavings!

I'll spritz the roots once a week and they should be happy for quite some time!!

Happy Cows

Our cows are so happy to spending all their time in their little pasture!
We should have their second field all fenced in this week.
Then they can really stretch out and roam around.

The two on the left are pure Angus steers......... Rico and JC, the one in the middle is a Dexter steer....Jimmy Stewart, the two on the right are our Angus/Hereford heifers Eleanor and Elsa.

Our lawns have been flooded with Robins! They are on their way south and won't be back
until spring! It actually makes me a little sad!

Happy Cows!

Eleanor and Rico snuggling! :)

October Snow

We have a tradition in our home. The first snowfall of the year we play Christmas carols...
This year happens to be on.....
October 14th!!!!!

A Beautiful Fall Day

Dean showed up this morning after working his shift at the rescue and asked if I wanted to go hunting.
Hmmm....let's see......spend time with my oldest son??
YOU BET!!!  So off we went!
Dean wanted me to shoot a bird or a squirrel.  When he heard a squirrel sounding off he stopped the truck and told me to get ready.  He looked up in the trees and found this looking at us!!

It's a Pine Martin, and Scott tells me that they are a very
private animal.  He has been hunting and trapping for quite some time and said he has never seen one in the wild!

They are pretty cute, but I wouldn't want one around my chicken coop!

We rounded the corner and Dean saw a bird!

The sky was so blue and the colors at their peak!

The lighting was so saturated!

Looking for birds and squirrels!
